Chippers & the environment

The sustainable management of hedgerows, bocage landscapes and forests, far from harming the environment, is the very condition for their preservation. The branch chipper turns maintenance into harvesting, clearance into cost-effective prevention, and pruning residues into a resource for living soils.

Hedgerows & bocage

Hedgerow management — an act for biodiversity

Forestry and the management of hedgerows and bocage landscapes are often accused of harming biodiversity. Yet it is precisely through their sustainable exploitation and valorisation that this living heritage is maintained, kept in good condition and welcoming to many forms of life.

The branch chipper plays a decisive role here: it turns hedgerow management into harvesting. Instead of being a costly constraint indefinitely postponed, hedgerow maintenance becomes a productive operation : the chips generated are directly usable as mulch, bedding, compost, insulation or fuel.

A managed hedge is a preserved hedge

A hedge managed outside nesting periods provides a high-quality refuge for a rich and useful biodiversity — beneficial insects, birds, small mammals. Regular maintenance, made economically viable by valorising the residues, encourages the preservation — and even the planting — of new hedgerows.

Wildfire prevention

Valorised clearance — a cost-effective prevention tool

The fight against forest fires is a growing challenge, in France as elsewhere across Europe and around the world. The problem is intensifying under the effect of climate change and ever-increasing human presence in sensitive ecosystems. In this context, preventive clearance is an essential lever — but it remains costly and difficult to deploy at scale.

The branch chipper radically changes the economic equation of clearance: by valorising the brushwood extracted, it makes low-cost or even zero-cost clearance possible. The chips produced become a saleable resource — wood energy, mulch, bedding — that covers part or all of the cost of the operation.

Mechanised methods that respect the habitat

Mechanised clearance techniques have been developed to reduce labour costs and shorten site durations — thereby minimising human presence in the habitat and disturbance to wildlife. Chipping brushwood in situ also avoids transport and green-waste burning.

Living soils & carbon

CO₂ sequestration in living soils

It is now widely recognised that a soil rich in humus stores significant quantities of CO₂. Valorising hedgerow trimmings, fruit-tree prunings and forestry residues as wood chips and using them in permaculture or agroforestry keeps in the soil the carbon fixed by the trees during their growth.

Applying fresh or fermented chips to the soil goes beyond simple carbon sequestration: it delivers measurable benefits for the overall health of the soil, by encouraging a dense and diverse microbiological community — fungi, bacteria, micro-organisms — that is essential for harmonious and abundant plant growth.

CO₂ storage

The carbon fixed by trees remains in the soil as stable organic matter, instead of being released by combustion or rapid decomposition.

Living soils

Chips feed an abundant and diverse soil microbiome — the essential condition for a fertile, well-structured soil that is resilient in the face of weather extremes.

Optimal plant production

A living soil provides the plant with all the nutrients it needs, at the precise moment it needs them, without surplus or deficiency, without chemical inputs.

A virtuous cycle

Local woody residues enrich local soils that produce local crops — a short, closed loop with no industrial transport or transformation.
